The Vampire Chronicles Collection, Volume 1
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (Trd Pap) (01 October, 2002)
Author: Anne Rice
Average review score:

The First Three are always the best!
Allthough Anne Has somewhat lost her ability to write a good book. The first three of the "Vampire Chronicles" in one book is always a good deal!

The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned is by far her best work!

This is such a tresure to have and to start out with. When you start reading Anne's work.

Vintage Rice
Many people know of Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" due to the popular movie starring Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt. But what some may not be aware of is that "Interview" is only one part of a much larger tale.

Rice has been at it for many years and the Vampire Chronicles span innumberable volumes by this point in time. A reason to buy this particular book is that it collects the first three, and most essential novels in an affordable single edition.

While Rice's future work suffers from sameness and lack of a good editor, this trilogy (Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned) is filled with striking imagery and an emotional resonance that commands attention. You journey with these characters as they grapple with issues of good and evil, and search for the meaning of their existence... complete with sex and blood and explosions, all that good stuff.

The novels contained in this volume are hugely entertaining and shift through many different moods, perhaps all you ever need to know about Anne Rice - it stands as her best legacy.

The Versatile Grain and the Elegant Bean: A Celebration of the World's Most Healthful Foods
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (April, 1992)
Authors: Sheryl London, Mel London, and Kathleen M. Skelly
Average review score:

The best bean & grain cookbook in existence.
I pulled this one out of the library and then spent the next year and a half looking for it in all the used bookstores around. It is a great cookbook in general, and full of great recipes. The tea-poached plums with vanilla barley pudding is one my favorites. Definitely one of my most used cookbooks.

Informative and Useful
I took this book out of the library on a whim, but what I saw of it in the 3 weeks of the loan period persuaded me to buy it. It is chock full of information, both historical and uses, on pretty much any grain or bean I've ever heard of - and many that I haven't. It has a very well set out table for every grain and bean giving basic cooking instructions that I found very helpful, and it also contains a number of interesting recipes. Unfortunately, it is out of print, so I'm now hoping someone can find a copy for me!

Violent Offenders: Appraising and Managing Risk (Law and Public Policy: Psychology and the Social Sciences)
Published in Hardcover by American Psychological Association (APA) (September, 1998)
Authors: Vernon L. Quinsey, Grant T. Harris, Marnie E. Rice, and Catherine A. Cormier
Average review score:

Violent Offenders Can Run, But They Can't Hide!
The authors clearly know their material and. perhaps, most importantly, know how to convey this information in a clear and forthright manner. Facts and statistics saturate the content of the text, and do so in the professional style one would hope for. Historical, with expert research always evident, this is a resource which ought to be on the desks of all of those professionals who are involved with the complex and often tedious demands surrounding actuarial assessments!

Comprehensive and Uncompromising
This is an excellent book about the development of actuarial tools to determine risk for Violence and Sex Offender Risk. The books content covers the history of research in this area over the last 25 years and methods and measurement. The Chapter on clinical judgement is excellent and sets the stage for the need of actuarial assessments to enhance our ability to determine risk. The appendicies contain the two risk tools developed by the authors: 1) Violence Risk Appraisal Guide (VRAG, and 2) Sex Offender Risk Appraisal Guide (SORAG). I highly recommend this book!

Voyages of Discovery: Three Centuries of Natural History Exploration
Published in Hardcover by Clarkson N. Potter (October, 1999)
Authors: Tony Rice and Anthony Rice

Absolutely Delightful
This is the sort of book that somehow gives you an instant vacation to another time and place when you sit down with it. I am basing an art show somewhat loosely on the concept of being an artist-discoverer in a new land as a result of having spent time with this book. I found it to be truly inspiring!

Voyages of Discovery
We just got this delievered today. What a BEAUTIFUL book! I worked in a used bookstore for four years and have seen a lot of art and photography "coffee table" type books. I have seen few that can rival this for exquisite illustrations. If you or anyone you know has an interest in science history, exploration, biological sciences, or art, this book is a must have. Great diversity of flora and fauna depicted. A breathtaking combination of text and illustration. I originally purchased this for my two oldest boys (ages 13 & 12) for Xmas, but they will need to wait in line until I am done reading and looking at it. This is a wonderful book well worth the price.

The Wind Speaks Her Own Name
Published in Paperback by PoetWorks Press (30 September, 2001)
Author: Ruth Rice-Sipila
Average review score:

Wonderful poetry...
Ruth is awesome! Of course, I am partial...she is my mother!!!!! Ruth has an amazing gift, which has ran in our family for over 12 generations! I am honored to be mentioned in this book. Her writing is absolutely down to earth, and honest. Anyone who has had a less than perfect child hood will relate to these poems!

Some of the best...
Some of the best desert poetry we've ever read with a touch of the personal thrown in for good measure. The wind may speak to her, but to us it "speaks her own name." Ms Sipila may be unknown now but if there are more of her works to come, that won't last for long. We will be watching, waiting and hoping for more of the same from this artist.

Wizard of the Upper Amazon: The Story of Manuel Cordova-Rios
Published in Paperback by North Atlantic Books (June, 1986)
Authors: Cordova-Rice Lamb, F. Bruce Lamb, and Manuel Cordova-Rice
Average review score:

Read it...
If you are interested in shamanic subjects & are reading people like John Perkins and Carlos Castaneda, then you will want to read this.... which pre-dates those. This is a story not an essay or direct teaching, but understandings are there for the taking. I come away from this book (read in one day) appreciative but also with a vague wondering if the story is exactly as it seems... did it really happen? does it matter if it really happened?

A beautiful and enthralling story
An authentic account from the early twentieth centry of villiage life in the Amazon jungle. Told in a simple and direct manner, one is captivated by the sophisticated and complete social life of the Indian people. Since it is a first hand account , non-anthropological, one gets a glimpse of a way of life rich in religious, cultural and human acheivement. It offers insights into the way of life of the Huni Kui people, and into the Western way of life, both complete and wonderful in their own right, but utterly seperate. The civilization of the Huni Kui people is hard to relate to the animalistic, instinctual slavery of the greed driven capitalist world, where everything is reduced to its financial worth, as oppossed to its intrinsic value. Although the Huni Kui people are ultimately pragmatic about the world they live in, their intellectual integrity allows for recognition of the interdependence of all life. This is explored in the book through enjoyable tales of hunting trips, religious ceremonies and villiage incidents, revealing a taste of the satisfaction of an integrated way of life, apart from the materialistic fantasies engaged in by the machinistic, beurocratic Western worldview.

Aida brings the soul back to brodway
What better word to say than Aida.......okay I can only think of one Heather Headley! So you can't think of one without thinking of the other, I had that problem myself. The original Broadway cast album of Aida has been the best recording I have herd from broadway in a while.

Heather Headley knocks you to your chair, with her powerful, soulfoul, African cries. She makes you feel every word she is singing.

Aida cries out Rock and Roll ballads along with Gospel and R&B rendentions that will have you clapping for days. I absolutly loved it I garauntee anyone who buys it will love it!
